Parks Operations Supervisor

Starting Hiring Range: $59,701 - $73,134

The purpose of this position is to assist in planning the activities, projects, and personnel engaged in performing grounds and parks maintenance work and repairs to include athletic fields, courts, playgrounds, trails, and other amenities, turf maintenance, tree care, and natural areas, irrigation system maintenance and programming, pool and splash pad maintenance, and supervision of park reservations and special events.

• Coordinates and provides maintenance support for special event activities including: logistics, planning, set-up, communicating and planning with supporting organizations/departments, take down, attending special event planning meetings, and working cohesively with the Special Event Coordinator.
• Supervises and coordinates projects and maintenance including: developing maintenance schedule; scheduling staff; creating estimates for projects; procuring appropriate tools, materials, and supplies; determining logistics; monitoring progress; ensuring completion and adherence to project; and preparing status reports.
• Maintains inventory and supply levels of chemicals, equipment, and products for the maintenance division including ordering needed items, ensuring proper storage, and verifying items are available for use as needed.
• Maintains records relating to event layouts, supplies, equipment inventories, fertilizer application logs, maintenance tasks and labor, project historical information including cost, pesticide, and inspection checklist items for park certifications.
• Investigates and documents accidents, graffiti, and vandalism, and coordinates necessary repairs.
• Ensures safety trainings relative to parks maintenance are conducted at least monthly, and ensures that park facilities, maintenance employee working conditions, and equipment operation procedures are conducted in a safe manner.
• Performs safety inspections and audits of all playground equipment on a weekly or monthly basis, as needed, documents the facility’s condition, and ensures necessary repairs are conducted as assigned.
• Manages parks fleet scheduling repairs and maintenance and monitoring mileage. 
• Assists with special projects.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED equivalent, is required.
Minimum of four (4) years of general parks maintenance, irrigation, or landscape maintenance experience is required.

One (1) year experience in a lead or supervisor position, is required.

• Knowledge of maintenance and parks including property and equipment maintenance, best practices, proper chemical handling and storage, and proper methods for minor repairs relative to parks maintenance.
• Knowledge of city and departmental practices, procedures, systems, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, and best practices relating to parks.
• Ability to effectively supervise staff in a proactive, appropriate, and productive manner.
• Ability to effectively address and resolve employee relations issues in a fair and equitable manner. 
• Ability to correctly interpret, explain, and apply laws, rules, operations, practices, procedures, regulations, and policies.

Special RequirementsThis position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.Licenses & CertificationsMust possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.  National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Certification is required, or must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.Work EnvironmentWork is performed in outdoor climates and a climate-controlled office environment. Exposure to extreme/inclement weather conditions, noise, and dust. Physical demands include lifting (up to 80 lbs.), sitting, walking, and standing. Work performed may cause fatigue of eyes and other faculties because of fairly continuous use of motor senses. Requires driving, climbing, lifting, carrying, digging and exposure to equipment and machinery.
Mobility in a field environment with uneven terrain and during inclement weather is required.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, being on-call, and attending events or meetings after hours.
