Sysco was founded in 1969 and became a public company in March 1970, when the shareholders of nine separate food distributors swapped their stock for shares in the new one. It sells and delivers food to customers who prepare meals away from home: restaurants, hospitals, schools, hotels, and entertainment venues. In June 2026 it employed about 75,000 people, 52,000 of those in the US, and its executive offices are on Enclave Parkway in Houston.
